What. The. Hell?! Vacation Plans. Books.

Books first because they are among many things, a happy subject for me. Last night Skoora bought The Mythical Creatures Bible by Brenda Rosen and awesomely enough, it was in the New Age section of Hasting's where I was looking for books on Asatru. More on that later. Anyway, I think it looks like it will be a nice little read and might even have some information we haven't come across or even creatures we've never heard of before.

On to my book. Skoora bought me the book to the left, The Norse Myths by Kevin Crossley-Hollad. I've opened it, scanned the table of contents, and I think it's going to be a really good read. I have high expectations that it will be more in depth than D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths since that one was for kids. I still have the Poetic Edda and so forth to read, but this will be fun too.

I over did it yesterday while trying to do laundry and cleanup the bedroom, threw my back right out of whack. On top of that, I smacked my elbow in the shower and in some bizarre freakish way, in moving just slightly so I wouldn't smack it again was just right enough to make the disk slip again or do something really bad. Needless to say, today I am not doing so well and I need to go get a hair cut. I think I can manage it if I am really careful.

A situation happened recently and no I don't want to go into details. It has been a set 'What the Hell' kind of days. I don't think I am as okay as I thought I was. Or maybe it was that I went numb for self preservation and now bits of feeling are leaking back in in small bouts. Or maybe it was that I thought everything was going to be fine until last night and I need to retract some things and.... You know what, it will work itself out. I don't want to stress over it right now,my back hurts enough I don't need to make my head hurt too. No, my head doesn't hurt when I think, it hurts when I start to get really stressed. All my neck muscles tense up. Also, I'm not sick, that I know of, this situation has to do with people.

All of that said Skoora and I are planning a small vacation because we need to get the fuck away. We've never had a vacation together and after 6 years, it's damned time. So we are going to go visit a friend and see some things that shes seen but I haven't but wanted to see. We don't know when but it'll probably be within the next few months. Honestly, I can hardly wait and hope that my back holds out!

  1. Well, I can't wait for you to get your vacation. You both really need one. On top of the stress of a multiple member household there is always cabin fever during the cold months.

You might want to try out Google Play services and do a search for books on Norse Mythology. Lot's of things are available to download for free, especially classic works. All you need is an e-reader. It's great when you can't afford to buy the actual books or can't find what you're looking for. The Eddas are there too, for free. I just finished a small book called Tales from the Eddas which is sort a kids version but a good starting point for generating more interest. The only part of the Elder Edda I've read is Lokasenna, wherein Loki really slung a lot of mud. I.E. "You fucked your brother" "I'm the real father of your wifes kid, ha.ha.HA." and so forth. It's really amusing to read, human beings change so little. Interesting little bit of Loki trivia: In one of the stories, he confessed that the skill he surpasses all others in is how much food he can put away. Now I have images of Loki at a pie eating contest or a hot eating contest. xD

I don't know very much about Asatru but I stumbled upon one site that was more fundamentalist than your Christian fundie. And very white supremacist. Those types are called Nazitrus. xD

    1. Oh fundamentalists, how fun, well I know how to deal with those types. It'll take some doing but if this is something that I (fucking hell, Skoora's Mom is home and really excited) anyway if this is something that I end up being interested in I'll weed out the creepos and wackos until I find something I am comfortable with. I don't have time for bullshit.

LOL, Loki is such a punk ass. LOL, was he talking about Freyja? Because I just read about that in the book I am reading about Freyja.

I have the Edda's downloaded to the Kindle app on my computer. Although, I am starting to think that I would really like to get an e-reader. That's not going to happen anytime soon though.

Holy crap! Yes, I do need a vacation and one that doesn't involve going to a funeral, taking someone's ashes somewhere they want to be laid to rest, or a trip home to decompress from everything.

  2. Actually,by ereader I meant the software itself. You can get a PC version of almost any ereader software. A good book on Witchcraft or Wicca/Paganism is Raymond Bucklands Witchcraft. It's focus is mostly Norse and includes detailed templates for every celebration on the wheel. Another thing that's great about it is the inclusion of Futhark, the runic alphabet and how to write it. I used to write in my b.o.s exclusively in futhark. Boy did that piss off my ex!! XD. It's really easy to learn. Another fun thing about it is the instructional for select ting public and private craft names and how to choose them using astrologically and numerologically beneficial ways. I wish I still had that book!

  3. My public craft name was Sephirah. As for who Loki was boning would probably almost all of them. He really got around, that guy. But I think it was Freya who fucked her bro, Freyr, lol. She didn't deny it and one of the people present shrugged it off as normal for married women to take lovers. The only person Loki was afraid of was Thor.

  4. Yes, I have that book somewhere out in the garage. I haven't read all of it just some of it and that was quite some time ago. I will have to dig it out and sit down with it, after I get some other books out of the way.

I actually want to learn Futhark so I can cast runes and read them without having to go look at a piece of paper to tell me what they mean all the time. Writing in it wouldn't be such a bad idea either, for keeping things semi-private. I love that it pissed off your ex.

I don't really have a "craft name" per se. I just used Kohana on pagan space but I haven't really attached anything to it. I used to be autumn willowlake a long time ago, but I think I've really grown out of that name.

Just finished reading a book on Freya, she did sleep with her brother but incest doesn't seem to be an issue with the Vanir. It's believed that her father Njord slept with his sister and that she could possibly be Freya and Freyr's mother. Also, when Loki accuses her of it, Njord stands up for her, which I thought was really cool.

  5. I don't think incest is really an issue for any of the Gods, lol.

Thor: So it's totally okay that I fuck my little bro.
