Amanda called me this afternoon and asked me if I wanted to go to the reading and book signing Sherman Alexie was doing downtown to promote his new book, a children's book called "Thunder Boy Jr." I've never been to a book signing, Sherman Alexie sounded really familiar to me and while I didn't think I had read anything of his, of course I wanted to go!
So I met her down town after she got off work.
Sherman Alexie spent some time talking about a very close friend of his who passed just last month. It was emotional and I cried a little. As it turns out both he and Jim Boyd, the musician- his friend, are both from this area of Washington and they work together on a lot of things. I am also betting that my Dad has heard of Jim Boyd given the music he created and who he opened for.
I know these pictures aren't the best, but I was taking the on my phone from the balcony. That's Sherman Alexie reading his book. He made it very interactive, pulling in the audience, and getting the kids up on stage to help too!
There were too many people in the lobby of the theatre and all far too close for me to be comfortable. So I went outside to wait in the cool air while Amanda stood in line to get his signature.
I had a blast and Sherman Alexie is amazing and funny! I am looking forward to reading this book!
It was a lovely and spontaneous evening. <3 Thank you for coming with me honey!
